After days of neglect and seemingly hopeless banter… of whether i should have bought the Wii or PS3, and i was gonna try to live the rest of life knowing that i bought a $500 door-stop… i came to this website… during my scourge for knowledge… caffeine-injected random web surfing…

i encountered a wonderful headline…

The Red Ring of Death : Cure Found!

thanks to this post i was able to revive my XBOX360…

i took out my hard drive, and controllers, and looked for a nice place where i can put my 360 down on. i could find a “nice” place, because my room’s messy. so i put it on my bed, instead of wrapping it with a towel as the cure indicated. i wrapped it with my blanket. waited for about 30 mins. (i know the cure said 15 mins.) but i was skeptical at first. after that the cool down. 20mins to cool down and success… it’s working… ok so i played the whole night.

    That is awesome, I seriously didn’t think it was going to work, but I mean, I had no other options really, and it was already dead anyways. Congrats!

    I hate to tell you this, but your fix is probably only temporary. Bad solder joints on the pcb just got hot enough to reset. Unfortunately that same heat that caused it is also warping the the pcb. This fix will probably work a few times, but eventually the board will warp so badly that the solder won’t reset. Remember we are talking some extreme temperatures here, and extreme heat & delicate electronics do NOT make good bed fellows.
    A possible save for your system is to completely resolder these cold-solder joints before the pcb is to the point of no return. Otherwise you may be pushing your 360 into an abyss that you may never be able to recover it from. Do what I did. I threatened to join a class-action law suit against Microsoft if they didn’t make things right and they folded like a house of cards. Good luck.

    @PacoDG thanks for your post

    @vicb626 i guess you’re right and noted it is really a temp fix. my 360 died after 3 days of nonstop playing.

    wassup yall. I just wanted to let you know that when my 360 got the red ring of death i did a good bit of research on it and all and looked into the towel trick but i didn’t try it. insteady i just turned the box on, got the red lights and let it sit for about 10 mins. Then i turned it back off and on once more and i can play for hours. the towel trick is maybe a little to severe to use on a machine so delicate and cheaply made. all it takes is a little warming up to get it to work, not as much as the towel trick. anway send it in for replacement, microsoft is fixing them all for free anyway. thanks and enjoy

    once more folks refrain from the towel trick it may damage the system even more. all u gotta do is just leave it on “without a towel” for about 10 minutes and it will come right on.
